Senior Systems Engineer

JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Systems Engineer works under minimal supervision ensures the availability, reliability, performance and maintenance of supported server hardware and software.

A Systems Engineer, Senior has in depth knowledge and understanding of supported systems and is a subject matter expert in one or more areas of software systems engineering.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsible for the analysis, development, modification, installation, configuration, testing and maintenance of operating systems and application software.

Resolves application errors, security vulnerabilities, and system performances.

Evaluates vendor supplied software packages and makes recommendations to IT management.

Creates. Modifies and/or debugs vendor-supplied utilities and packages via SCCM and scripting.

Creates technical documentation for system software applications. Monitors systems capacity and performance, plans and executes disaster recovery procedures, and provides Tier 2 technical support.

Performs complex tasks with regards to the development of processes, procedures, automation/monitoring/deployment of tools.

Defines and discerns key aspects of a problem and develops an integrated solution within a broad technical and business context of significant impact.

May provide guidance/training to more junior staff.

Requires technical and business knowledge in multiple disciplines/processes.

Formulates and defines specifications for complex operating software programming applications or modifies/maintains complex existing applications using engineering releases and utilities from the manufacturer.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor of Science in Information Technology preferred but equivalent experience may be substituted.

Microsoft Certified IT Professional or equivalent preferred.

Minimum of seven years of experience as a Systems Engineer.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems and Back Office Products, including SCCM.

Strong knowledge of DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, load balancing, and Windows clustering.

May require specific Exchange engineering knowledge and skills in various messaging applications.
