Senior Operations Engineer

Boulder, CO

Six Month Contract-to-Hire

The Senior Operations Engineers are part of our client's development team.

These specialists will work with and supplement the core development Sprint Teams to work down the development backlog and bring new functionality to support the client's mission.

Located in Boulder, CO, our client focuses on research and understanding of climate change, land-use and impact of invasive species on ecology.

Job Description:

The Senior Operations Engineers will respond to and assist the Operations Engineers for deep dives into operational issues that may be the result of a program bug or other circumstance leading to an Operational Incident.

In addition, they must be able to draw upon their experience, technical skills, and understanding of the processing environment to assess an issue, determine appropriate corrective action, perform fixes, and test and prepare the code for deployment.

Although potentially complex, the work is short duration, highly visible and provides immediate results.

Job Functions:

Work closely with client's Cyber Infrastructure, IT, Engineering (SI&V), and science teams to help define the systems and processes required to support the transition to operations

Create tools to automate existing manual processes and validate associated data

Improve processes to help rapidly produce software products to improve operational performance and reliability

Respond quickly to support requests from users of the system to assist with troubleshooting issues

Follow all information security confidentiality policy and procedures

Required:

2+ years of experience with software/applications operations and support

2+ years of software development/application development experience

SQL & Linux Scripting

Motivated problem solver.

Able to use technical skills to find code or configuration errors to resolve production issues

Able and willing to take responsibility for code fix lifecycle: problem identification,
determination of corrective actions, performing fixes, QA testing, and preparation of
production patch releases

Interest in working down development backlog to supplement and enhance core development
sprint teams

Automation: an ability to make the enterprise leaner and more efficient through the
automation of repetitive tasks

Demonstrable experience with Linux and Shell Scripting

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field. Equivalent education and experience may be considered

Preferred:

Experience with Java development, Python, REST, JBoss/HornetQ

Experience with Hibernate and REST implementations

Familiarity with Web application server environments such as Tomcat, Apache, or other similar systems

Experience reading and writing to data structures such as XML and JSON

Experience with Agile development environments and Rally software is a plus
