Systems Operations Engineer

An established telecommunications leader is seeking a quality Systems Operations Engineer to be based in their Ashburn office.

The SysOps Engineer provides information technology support and administration for the company's CBRS

system. The successful candidate has demonstrated knowledge and experience working with all aspects of system

and networking administration, including but not limited to provisioning, installation, configuring, operation, and

maintenance of both the systems and applications in an AWS cloud-based environment. The SysOps Engineer will

be responsible for executing, testing, and rolling out solutions to support the AWS/Linux infrastructure for

individual projects and scenarios in the cloud, in addition to other duties as assigned.

Duties & Responsibilities





• Coordinates with development and customers to ensure that requirements from development are understood and implemented as expected

• Coordinates with IT Vendors and ensures they are meeting expectations

• Gathers requirements to define a solution to be built and operated

• Provisions, operates and maintains CBRS systems and network infrastrucure

• Collects metrics and generates reports on system performance

• Interfaces with a ticket tracking system for issues escalated from Tier I support and creates new issues self identified

• Ability to support periodic "on-call” after hours support

AWS Architect / SysOps certification and/or experience with the following:

• Providing direct AWS operations and deployment experience with Amazon Web Services EC2, ECS, RDS, VPC, IAM, Route53, S3, and other AWS Services

• Creating automated deployment and test environments to interact with AWS

• Direct experience deploying, managing, and operating scalable / highly available / fault tolerant systems on AWS

• Migrating existing on-premise applications and services to AWS

• Selecting the appropriate AWS service based on compute; data; or security requirements

• Identifying appropriate use of AWS operational best practices

• Creation and configuration of alarms in CloudWatch

• Performance monitoring AWS application nodes and software

• Two or more years of direct hands-on experience operating AWS-based applications

• Experience with TLS Certificate Management and security protocols

• Experience provisioning and maintaining VPNs

• Expert level Linux/Unix command line

• Knowledgeable and able to use Internet Technologies such as HTTP, DNS, DHCP, TCP, IP etc.

• Experience with installing and configuring Apache and Tomcat

• Ability to thrive in a constantly changing technical environment with shifting priorities

• Experience with supporting mission critical software

• Skill and drive to own and solve complex issues with minimal oversight

• Ability and desire to learn and apply new knowledge and engineering concepts as it relates to the business

• Demonstrated interpersonal skills sufficient for direct customer interaction



Additional skills that are preferred:

• Experience managing PostgreSQL, OrientDB and Couchbase databases

• Experience with Gradle and Docker

• Experience with Terraform

• DevOps tooling such as Chef and Jenkins, Maven, JIRA, and Confluence

• Knowledge of testing tools such as BrowserStack, Selenium

• Experience conducting and managing IP security audits

• Familiarity with DevOps Toolchain "Code, Build, Test, Package, Release, Configure, Monitor” and Agile-Scrum development methodology.
