Junior Accountant Job Summary

The Junior Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day administration of the bank’s accounts payable function, by performing accounting tasks related to the recording and processing of invoices for payment, in a prompt and efficient manner.

The Junior Accountant analyzes purchase orders, statements, expense reports and invoices needed to prepare/generate payment disbursements, and posts journal entries that pertain to accounts payable adjustments.

The incumbent in this position works closely with our branches, internal departments and external vendors to ensure the accuracy of all invoices and payment amounts.

The Junior Accountant tracks payments and transactions in our accounting system and maintains vendor files.

Junior Accountant Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Review and process invoices and expense reports, upon proper approval for payment, in a prompt, accurate and efficient manner; ensure invoices are coded and proper documentation has not only been provided but complies with Bank policies and procedures.

Allocate expenses to appropriate general ledger accounts and cost centers by analyzing invoices (including the review of sales taxes) and or expense reports.

Provide excellent customer service by establishing and maintaining relationships with external vendors, as well as various levels of Bank management to ensure positive client satisfaction.

Prepare and record journal entries related to accounts payable adjustments.

Track all payments in accounting system.

Process check requests; match invoices to checks and obtain the necessary signatures required.

Respond to inquiries from vendors and staff (branches & internal departments) regarding status of invoices/expense reports and resolve outstanding balances and issues.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in vendor database; ensure new vendors are added to database.

Perform additional duties and support special projects as directed by management.

Junior Accountant Skills, Education & Experience

Associates (AAS) degree in Accounting required; working towards a BA/BS degree in Accounting preferred.

Minimum of 1 year of experience in an accounting or finance position required.

Experience utilizing electronic invoicing systems a plus.

Excellent customer service and communication skills (both verbal & written).

Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines

Strong organizational skills.

Detail oriented and must have ability to maintain data integrity and accuracy in work.

Proficiency in Microsoft office, including Excel and Word.

Proven ability to adapt and work to meet deadlines
