Job Description

Infrastructure Engineer

We are working with a mid-size firm located in Chicago's loop.

They are currently looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to join a small infrastructure team.

The Infrastructure Engineer is responsible to design, develop, launch, scale, monitor and maintain advanced storage, virtualization, business continuity, and cloud-based systems that make up our systems environment.

This includes planning, installation and support of the firm's storage, compute, and managing Disaster Recovery and Business continuity sites.

Involved in technical support for network users to resolve issues associated with user's access rights and privileges.

Requires being on-call to facilitate calls from IT staff and firm employees outside normal working hours for system emergencies and disasters.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain virtualized server environment, SAN/NAS storage, Fiber-Channel/iSCSI, backup, and blade chassis environments.

• Manage multiple VMware ESXi environments consisting of virtual desktops and servers.

• Support the backup cloud computing environment.

• Maintain network integrity via performance monitoring and sound security procedures.

• Help maintain inventory and lifecycle management of data centers.

• Provide network equipment installation and support.

• Design, test and deploy virtual desktop environment using VMware Horizon and assist Desktop Engineer with gold image changes.

• Work with software and hardware vendors to research new industry trends, procure and new equipment and technologies.

• Assist IT staff in resolving difficult support questions related to LAN operation.

• Participate in evaluation of user's technology requests.

• Make recommendations to Director of IT for procedure and technology changes that would improve existing infrastructure technologies.

• Hands-on style – willingness and competence in producing necessary changes in Firm's infrastructure and processes.

• Provide solutions on discovered or created problems and work on special projects as assigned by Director of IT.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Experience using infrastructure technologies such as network, compute, and storage.

• In depth knowledge of networking protocols, server hardware, storage hardware and Virtual Desktop Environments.

• 1-3 years of demonstrated experience of Windows networks, Commvault, VMware, VMware Site Recovery Manager, Pure Storage, NetApp, Cisco UCS, and cloud infrastructure (AWS or Azure).

• In depth knowledge of Active Directory with strong understanding on Group Policy Objects.

• Knowledge of Fibre-Channel and iSCSI technology.

• Ability to plan, organize and work effectively across organizational groups. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects effectively.

• Must be able to handle a steady stream of concurrent projects.

• Position requires 35 hours per week, variable (8am-5pm, M-F), plus emergency on-call.
