Position Summary:


The Senior Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day general ledger accounting and financial reporting for the organization, including accounting and reporting for the company's various investment/fund vehicles and property level entities.

The Senior Accountant will supervise two staff accountants and will work closely with both the Accounting Manager and the Vice President of Finance.

Principal Responsibilities:

Review property level financial statements and reporting packages provided by third-party property managers in connection with the month and quarter-end close.

Review journal entries and account reconciliations prepared by staff accountants for monthly general ledger close.

Assist with preparation of financial statement consolidations and compilation of GAAP and/or tax basis financial statements for various reporting entities.

Prepare budget vs. actual variance reports. Assist in providing follow-up and documentation of significant variances.

Prepare and evaluate accounting entries for capital transactions, including property acquisitions/dispositions and loan refinancings.

Assist with processing monthly capital calls, distributions and construction draws, including analysis of sources and uses, preparation of investor notices and review of underlying accounting entries.

Oversee the accounts payable and cash disbursements function, including maintenance of vendor records, year-end 1099 processing, etc.

Review bank account reconciliations prepared by staff accountants. Assist with treasury functions including setting up new accounts, processing wires and managing banking relationships.

Assist with year-end audit and tax preparation, respond to external auditor and tax preparer requests and organize workpaper documentation in connection with the year-end audit process.

Prepare and ensure timely submission of debt compliance materials to lenders.

Support the Asset Management Group with preparation of property level financial analysis.

Assist with special projects assigned by management.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

CPA or CPA candidate preferred, bachelor's degree in accounting required.

Three years of experience in an accounting position, real estate industry and GAAP familiarity preferred.
Public accounting experience a plus.

Strong analytical and accounting skills.

Experience with major accounting software packages for general ledger accounting. Yardi and/or MRI familiarity a plus.

Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks.

Highly analytical, strong written and verbal communication, resourceful, and confident.
