Job Description

Senior Database Programmer - Progress 4/GL

Participates in the analysis of information systems problems and the development of solutions to those problems.

Responsible for working with user personnel on problem areas to define pertinent specifications for applications.

Performs data base design, program design, coding and other programming tasks from general directions.

Specifies the required logical interface between related programs or processes.

Defines and corrects operational difficulties encountered in executing programs. Communicates effectively at team level.

Essential Job Functions:

Designs, programs, tests, implements and documents program logic.

Assist in the development of user requirements for new systems projects by working with system users, teams and management to understand business requirements and guide the team’s use of technology & systems to achieve goals in a cost-effective manner.

Program design, testing and implementation using Progress 4/GL Language, Webspeed, Database, OpenEdge Application Tools.

Program design, testing and implementation using Infor Mongoose, Python, Perl, Microsoft SQL, SSIS
Integration Tools, Sage SDATA

Support various Unix-based servers and processes including, Ubuntu, Apache Web Server, Samba File
Sharing and various communications technologies utilizing FTP, SFTP, Secure Sockets, XML, etc.

Support various Windows-based servers running Microsoft SQL & SSIS integration services

Assist with training of users on new systems / processes and provide end-user support for all company applications.

Monitor application & system performance and logs to ensure smooth error-free systems operation.

Is subject to call 24 hours, 7 days a week, to cover software failure on production programs or new applications behind schedule. Run system maintenance at night or on weekends when required.

Support continuous improvement by researching new technologies / techniques to improve business processes and efficiency.

Qualifications/Skills Required:

To perform this job successfully the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Minimum of 4 year degree (B Sc. Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent) or equivalent work experience.

Minimum of 5 years of experience with Progress 4/GL language and Database Administration.

Working knowledge of Windows & Unix operating systems, Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint & Excel),
Basic computer networking and web server functionality.

Strong written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills are essential.

Knowledge of SQL , PHP & Other languages required for full time position.
