Network Engineer II

The Network Engineer will be part of the distribution sites Network Engineering team.

This position includes implementing new network hardware/software, maintaining existing products or services and participating in troubleshooting operational issues.

The role will also interface with vendors, operational staff and peer organizations.

Finally, the Network Engineer successfully integrates knowledge of business and functional priorities.

General Characteristics

Provide drawings for network equipment, wireless access point, camera, MDF and IDF locations

Develop and recommend strategies for network growth, datacenter network security and enhancements by maximizing functionality of network equipment such as switches, routers, wireless infrastructure and firewalls.

Identification and resolution of network problems including routing, spanning tree, wireless connectivity, and application performance issues.

Acts as Tier II/III line of support for Network Branch trouble tickets.

Maintains monitoring of network infrastructure, including alert configuration, new device provisioning and general day to day functioning of the monitoring tool set.

Analyzes performance data and metrics, identifies problem areas and provides actionable insight to problem resolution.

Acts as a point of escalation for other IS teams regarding network infrastructure issues.

Reviews and responds to trouble tickets generated for the team by the corporate help desk; works with end users through resolution as necessary.

Drives issues through closure engaging all appropriate cross-team resources.

Performs complex and routine maintenance tests for designated areas of engineering; identifies, isolates, and escalates issues to appropriate personnel.

Participates in monthly off-hours support rotation of designated network resources.

Disaster Recovery plan execution.

Contributes to organization success.

Keep management, other team members and other departmental employees aware of obstacles and status changes in a timely manner based in our change management process.

Maintain a professional demeanor at all times. Consistently interact professionally and work productively with all levels of employees.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or related field or the equivalent in training and experience.

Minimum of 3 years supporting networking infrastructure.

Advanced experience with Security, Layer Two & Three Switching, VLANs, VPN's.

Advanced experience with WAN technologies such as MPLS, Ethernet, T1's, and LTE.

Advanced knowledge of CISCO equipment (routers, Nexus switches, ASA VPN Appliance, Wireless controllers) required.

Advanced troubleshooting complex LAN/WAN & application performance problems to resolution in
multitasking environment. Layer 1 through Layer 7.

Advanced knowledge of routing (BGP, OSPF, HSRP, and VRF).

Strong knowledge of VOIP, including QoS on LAN and WAN.

Strong interpersonal skills with a desire to collaborate with internal and external business/technical teams.

Strong knowledge of Cisco Client preferred.

Familiarity with appliance based network applications such as VPN appliances, proxy servers, Network
monitoring tools (LiveAction, ExtraHop, Cisco Wireless Controller, SolarWinds ORION, etc.).

Knowledge of Industry best practices when it comes to network design, network monitoring and security.

Excellent written and verbal communications skills are necessary.

CCNA and CCNP required.

Up to 20% overnight domestic travel required.
