Job Description

We have an immediate opening for a Technical Project Manager in Houston. In this role, you will be supporting our largest client with over 400 users that has a global presence! 6-12month contract with the possibility of extension.

Implementations-focused

Right candidate will have conducted IT project implementations, aligned to project work plans, communicating progress, performing technical delivery while also coordinating with application or custom-system vendors that may be part of the deliverable, and coordinating with the impacted user base to set expectations and validate operations.

Delivery skills

Strong work-planning skills – ability to summarize technical progress, next steps, anticipate risks

Strong communication skills – comfort interacting on the phone and via e-mail with users that could be affected by implementations, vendors which may be participating in implementations, and internal or peer technical resources for work coordination and expectation-setting

"Own it” type attitude and perspective; good personality and approach to understanding specifics of a technology you don't already have direct experience with; methodical approach with the confidence that it can be done

Succinct technical details and decisions documented as a self-valued, natural byproduct of work conducted well

Technical domain

Experience understanding line of business applications, platform requirements, and platform deployments

Experience with Remote Desktop Services concepts, deployments and application publishing

Experience with Microsoft SQL Server concepts, including service configuration, security configuration, and database file configuration when part of application platform requirements.

Comfortable with TCP/IP networking, including implementation experience with switches, firewalls, wireless.

Comfort with Cisco CLI, which, combined with implementation and work planning experience, would permit deployment of templated configurations with some planned, per-device customizations for LAN requirements.

Working knowledge of subnetting, VLANs, routing, for purposes of vocabulary and familiarity for troubleshooting and implementation processes.

Functional domain

Work environment consists of hands-on equipment preparation at central office (server equipment, network switch equipment, associated equipment) plus remote implementations (Windows Servers, applications, remote desktop services, switch deployments) and coordination for seven US-based sites representing a user base of approximately 300 people overall, in an international organization of approximately 2,000 people.

Reporting directly to same-office CIO, working directly with a number of key IT executives and managers in the deployment organization, plus a handful of on-site technical resources and a similar group of specialty, application- or technology-specific vendors participating in implementations or updates of their products.
