Position: Senior Network Engineer

Function

To implement major changes to existing network infrastructure, to prepare, document and provide support for the changes as well as the local and global network infrastructure.

Scope

A Network Analyst should have experience of a customer (internal and external) facing environment and an understanding of the service/customer relationship and the pressures this involves.

Experience in Network management, configuration and problem solving to a high level is required.

An applicant should be able

To analyse a complex network environment to devise migration strategies and plans.

To prepare and implement changes to the environment without impacting stability and general operation of the network

To troubleshoot any issues in the environment

To own and manage any problems, work with the greater teams to troubleshoot, escalate as necessary.

To carry out network related work for customer or third party projects with the ability to investigate, understand and interpret requirements in order to provide satisfactory solutions based on company and best practice standards and policies.

This will include understanding of a complex production environment and devise plans to amend the environment with priority on stability.

Furthermore the candidate needs to manage the preparation of the works, carry out the work (weekend work), communicate with the network and other teams and perform aftercare.

To provide support to other groups within technology services and provide this support within a Service Level Agreement business environment.

The incumbent must have a demonstrated natural inclination to seeing and solving problems.

Day-To-Day

Plan, prepare and implement changes to the environment in a manageable way under consideration of change windows.

Ensure Network Availability - Ensure the network is up and available in accordance with service level agreements – proactively looking for problems, change related or general.

Support – Provide support to other IT teams. This includes second line fixes and diagnosis of network and firewall problems.

Maintain documentation

Implement projects on time and on budget.

Network Infrastructure

Data Centre Experience (xconnects, technologies and processes)

MAN/WAN MPLS and Routing

CISCO LAN/MAN Connectivity

Firewalls and VPN (site to site)

Global WAN infrastructure

Client and third party connectivity setup and debugging

Technical Skills & Experience

Proven experience working in a similar role with a banking/financial networks background.

In depth experience with market exchange connectivity.

A proper understanding LAN and WAN technologies and protocols.

MPLS, Routing (BGP, OSPF), vrf-lite.

Solid experience with data centre functions, processes and technologies to successfully implement and manage changes, prepare changes and steer remote-hands if needed

Network monitoring and management tools.

Network security best practices.

Metropolitan Area Network connectivity and relevant connectivity knowledge

Inter-Enterprise connectivity and issues relating to it.
