Job Description
Our client, a leading Analytics Consulting organization, is looking to hire a Cloud Platform Engineer in their Reston or Colorado office.
As Senior Cloud Platform Automation Engineer, you will design, develop & automate management of very large distributed analytic systems using the very latest in open source tooling.
You will be responsible for the designing the architecture and management of development and production environments and will contribute to productizing new software by developing automation as well as re-engineering open source alternatives.
You will leverage your expertise as part of a growing multi-disciplinary team of Data Scientists, Engineers, and Solutions Experts with deep domain knowledge in distributed systems, analytics, and modeling/simulation.
You will aid in the comprehensive instrumentation of the software platform and contribute new ideas regarding best practices for deploying, maintaining and optimizing our infrastructure.
The position is highly technical and balanced between development and platform operations roles such as systems configuration management.

Responsibilities
You will be working with functionally diverse teams and individuals to collaboratively design and develop production systems/infrastructure treating everything as Code.
You will be writing code and scripting for automation and creating scalable systems/infrastructure
Building and maintaining tools for deployment, monitoring and operations
Design building AWS/Hybrid/on-prem based services supporting production platform offerings
Troubleshooting and resolving issues in development, test and production environments
What you bring to the team
Programming and scripting skills paired with understanding of how production environments work and the ability to re-engineer and build frameworks
A keen interest in solving problems. Non-performing services are more interesting than annoying
A positive attitude around learning new skills and capabilities
Qualifications
Reside in the greater Washington D.C. or Denver CO or are able to relocate to either of these locations
5-7 years of experience
Adept at learning and applying new technologies and solving new problems
Excellent communication skills with experience interacting with senior level management and executives
Strong technical expertise in several of the following technologies:
Cloud computing: AWS, DC/OS, Eucalyptus, Terraform
Configuration Management: Ansible, SaltStack
CI/CD: Jenkins, Maven, SBT, Artifactory, Git, SonarQube
Databases: MongoDB, MySQL, Postgres, Cassandra, Redis, InfluxDB
Programming: Java, Scala, Erlang, Ruby
Scripting languages: Shell, Ruby, Perl, Python
Systems: Linux/Unix administration, Networking fundamentals
Tools: ELK, Icinga, Graphite, Vault, RabbitMQ, NGINX
Desirable
Interest in data analytic technologies such as Apache Spark, Apache Pig, AWS Pipelines, Google Dataflow, or MapReduce
Experience and interest in large-scale distributed systems
Understanding of networking processing, protocols, and standards
TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, TLS, and SSL
