Infrastructure Project Manager
Location: Chicago, IL
Position Description:
As an Infrastructure Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading, overseeing and ensuring the successful delivery and management of multiple infrastructure projects within scope, quality, time and cost constraints.
Responsibilities:
Direct and coordinate activities of multiple project personnel to ensure that the project progresses on schedule and within budget.
Ensure that project goals are accomplished and are in line with business objectives.
Provide leadership and motivation to project team members throughout the project life cycle.
Establish and manage project work plans, including identifying and scheduling project deliverables, milestones, and required activities and tasks.
Analyze project proposals to determine time frame, funding limitations and appropriate process for accomplishing projects.
Plan and coordinate appropriate staffing for project activities, iterations or phases, and coordinate with PMO for recruitment or assignment of project personnel.
Maintain other relevant project plans and deliverables, including Communication and Risk Management
Plans, according to company standards.
Perform ongoing risk assessments and implement mitigation plans.
Maintain and present project status reports, seeking direction from leadership, as appropriate.
Manage program and project budgets.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information systems or a related field; project
management and/or general business management; or equivalent, related IT experience.
Project manager training and certification desirable, but not required.
Two+ years owning the delivery of multiple small to medium IT Infrastructure projects
Four+ years managing IT projects
History of managing projects leading 3+ associates to successful deliveries
Some program management experience, in which candidate managed multiple related efforts
History of working closely with, and potentially directing, both infrastructure product and service vendors toward accomplishing project and/or program goals.
Knowledge and Skills
Able to quickly (daily) identify when team members run into blockages, providing intelligent and informed suggestions (or potentially direct, hands-on actions) for clearing them.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, armed with the terms and understanding to provide simple, straight forward and accurate descriptions of technical tasks and status
Ability to lead and motivate others; demonstrating empathy and knowledge of personality types
Some experience with Agile methodologies could be helpful, as department is seeking to run more projects in agile fashion.
Demonstrated sensitivity to working in a political environment and to interacting with senior leadership
Versed at using project-planning tools, such as MS Project, Jira, Monday.com and others
Expertise in setting and managing customer expectations
Appreciation for, and understanding of, the needs of impacted areas as they relate to projects being delivered.
