Description
The Director of Software Engineering provides leadership, coaching, and mentorship to a diverse team of Software Engineers to ensure they are efficiently executing on plan and developing in their careers.
You will provide technical leadership in the areas of engineering and building an advanced analytic solution.
The Director manages people and grows our capabilities to create products in order to support wider company strategic objectives.
The software engineering team plays a critical role in engineering to stringent standards, resiliency & security and integration to the overall ecosystem.
The Director is expected to be technically adept to guide and challenge the Software Engineering team to achieve timely and exceptional results on behalf of the company .
You will join a growing multi-disciplinary team of software engineering professionals (front-end, back-end, full-stack) with deep domain knowledge working to develop new capabilities and workflows to solve real- world client problems.

Responsibilities
Supporting the company culture to create an openly collaborative, productive, and entrepreneurial environment for success and innovation
Leading a team of distributed software engineers in development across company products, including
management of engineers across functional areas.
Allocate resources and direction across teams to meet deadlines, both seeking and providing guidance as required
Track and report status of all projects during regularly scheduled program management update meetings
Proactively build, communicate and lead improvements to project, product, planning and execution with the ability to learn new technologies / practices and spearheading adoption within the organization
Coach, motivate, and lead teams to their optimum performance levels
Functions as the hiring manager for a team and manages performance through reviews
Assign learning activities, as approved by the VP, to team members to enhance the engineering capabilities
Ensure that engineers are following approved practices to develop products and solutions
Assist in the development of company processes and selection of technologies in collaboration with technology architects to achieve the goals of the Engineering team.
Ensure software products are both designed and developed to the standards as set by the VP and engineering leadership team
Collaborate with peer management team members to enable cross functional success within the company
Qualifications
Reside in the greater Washington D.C. area or able to relocate
Bachelor’s Degree or 8 years of relevant work experience
Expertise in Full-stack web development
Coding experience in Java or Scala.
The Director is not expected to be a dedicated coding resource.
Candidates with recent coding experience and the desire/ability to be hands-on when necessary are encouraged to apply.
Ability to be a leader of talented engineers who are encouraged to challenge the norm in the spirit creating market-best products
2+ years of experience managing and leading software engineering teams, with 5+ years as a senior
software engineer
Expert knowledge in a language/framework/technology, with advanced knowledge in multiple technologies
Ability and experience to manage multiple customers simultaneously
Critical thinking, strong judgment and ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively with clients and colleagues and experience facilitating discussion with executive audiences
Exceptional technical leadership skills
Problem solving and analytical skills relating to technical challenges
Strong communicator, in both speech and writing
Enthusiasm to join an entrepreneurial team and an environment that requires adaptability, comfort with ambiguity, intrinsic motivation, and in doing what it takes
Desirable
Understanding of cyber, insurance, or finance domains. More than one is highly desirable
