Job Description

SERVER ENGINEER

A growing, global professional services organization is seeking an experienced Server Engineer to join their local team.

The Server Engineer will be responsible for resolving escalated service issues, coaching other engineers to resolutions, engineering and implementing complex projects, and for maintaining and overseeing the technical infrastructure of the company.

The ideal candidate will have a background working with Windows and Linux servers and have well-rounded infrastructure experience.

Excellent communication skills are required.

Responsibilities:

Management of company's Windows and Linux server infrastructure, including day-to-day administration design and architecture

Optimize current infrastructure using industry best practices

Ensure that all server-based services are created and functioning

Understand and provide necessary evidence for all compliance and security controls

Control and monitor user access to the systems

Conduct security and compliance related scans, remediating vulnerabilities and other findings as necessary

Serve as point of contact with third party vendors for technical support

Assist as necessary with any other assigned duties that may arise

Mentor the more junior members of the team providing guidance and expertise

Requirements:

College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and 5+ years of experience or, equivalent work experience

5+ years of progressively responsible Server Administration/Engineering experience

Windows Server and Linux operating systems

Active Directory (Design and maintenance, group policy objects, permissions)

Enterprise storage systems

Enterprise class hardware

Data center operations

System monitoring and administration tool sets - VCenter, ADUC, AD Sites and Services, etc.

Solid understanding of network design and administration and networking protocols

Strong experience of server protocols and services - DNS, DHCP, PKI, IIS

Solid understanding of security tools and software – anti-virus, malware, firewalls

Solid understanding of WSUS patching solutions

Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience.

Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.

Ability to handle multiple priorities at one time.

Ability to make independent decisions.

Ability to work in a team environment

Industry recognized certifications (Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, etc.) highly desirable

Experience with Active Directory domain consolidations a plus

Experience with BitDefender antivirus and SolarWinds Patch manager

Background with script writing especially PowerShell preferred.

Hands on experience with automation suites (vRealize, Ansible, BMC, etc)
